The history of RossFeltus Farms

The history of RossFeltus Farms began with two friends and one dream. One day at a boarding stable in Houston, Anne Feltus and Lorna Ross began musing about how much fun it would be to move to the country and have their horses in their own backyards.

Fast forward to the present and to two friends, sitting on the balcony of Lorna’s apartment, located above her barn – drinking wine and enjoying the panoramic view of their horses grazing in the pasture, the sunset reflecting on the pond, the woods and Anne’s country cottage next door.

It didn’t happen overnight. Countless treks through the back roads around Houston culminated in a trip to Manvel, where the friends saw possibilities in a piece of property overgrown with underbrush, inhabited by snakes and spiders and under water much of the year. Lots of angst, energy, patience, persistence, dirt and determination later, they had side-by-side pieces of paradise.

Then they discovered Dexters. What started out as an investment in a few cows turned into a full-fledged breeding operation. With the daily grind of cleaning stalls, feeding livestock in the cold and rain and popping aspirin to soothe backs sore from schlepping bags of feed and bales of hay, the friends’ transformation from city girls to seasoned farmers was complete.
